TURF GOSSIP.
• (by spectator). Waverley, Nov 6. The spring meeting of the Waverley-Wai-totara Racing Club takes place on Friday, and if the weather holds fine some good racing should be witnessed. The hurdle rase is reduced to a match between Bugler and Chevalier, and the former is my fancy of the pair, as he is more considerately treated than he was at Wanganui. I think he should turn the tables on the Wanganui hurdle winner. A few likely hack hurdlers are being talked of, and this event should be an interesting one. The Guineas will be contested for by a field of four and of the quartette I cannot see anything to beat Wairureka on her two-year-old form. Leonessa is in the same stable, but Mr Stevens' mare has only to be wall to win. The Painter's stock have been running so well that I shall not be disappointed if Artist runs up to his early form and finishes second. The Flying Handicap should fall to Hinemoa, and if Mr Powell sends the daughter of Totara, I cannot see what is to beat her. Mr, Keith has three engaged, and perhaps Sham will do duty for the stable. This horse has been Been only a few times in public, but on several occasions. I saw him get over the mile course in Wanganui. That he is fast there can be little doubt. Whitiora is a probable •tarter, and should
be one of the placed ones. I select Hinemoa to win. Of the Maiden Platers I can see nothing to beat Ahua, who, in his Wanganui form, should hold everything else quiet safe. Dan will be absent at Taranaki, but a field of six may face the starter, in the Handicap, and it is quite possible thafc Mr Powell and Mr Keith will start two representatives each. When the weights first appeared I selected the horses as best treated but as I cannot tell my readers wh.it they intend doing with them I have to "tip "in the dark. Wni fciora is reported to doing well, and as she is not likely to have a gruelling like she had in Wanganui before the big race, and the distance being a quarter of a mile less, the half sister to Larry will be very handy at the finish, and she may reward those of her backers who stick to her on this occasion. As I have to venture an opinion, I must go for public favor, and give my vote to Bayard, who, in point of breed, has a pull over the others.
