Harrison Street. — A letter was received from Mr W. Warwick, calling attention to the state of the road in Harrison Street, between Glasgow and London Streets, which was very bad for traffic. — After some discussion, the matter was referred to the foreman for report at next meeting. The Water Supply.— Cr Laird brought up a report on behalf of the sub-committee appointed to consider the question of water supply for the Borough, making a number of recommendations for the future. They suggested that the charge made to the Government for the supply of the railway sheds at Eastown be 6d per 1000 gallons, the committee pointing out that in Auckland the charge is Is 6d per 1000 gallons, and the Government charge Is per 1000 gallons where they make the connection themselves. In Nelson the Government have made an arrangement by which they pay the local body a lump sum of £60 for water for all the Government buildings. He also presented a list of the fixed rates charged in all cases where the metres have been taken off, the charge in which was 4Jd per 1000 gallons. The extra price for the Government is made because the Eastown workshops are beyond the town boundaries, and the property is not subject to the Borough rates. The cost would be about £260. After a lengthy discussion, the report was adopted. Foreman's Report. — The "report of the Foreman of Works for the past month was read, received, aud after a few remarks, adopted.
