ABDUCTION BY PERSIANS.

• i - ' ' . i *> , A correspondent writes : — "An outrage has been committed at Baku which bids fair to becou)e the subject of lively diplomatic correspondence between Russia and ; Persia.-; 1 The following are the particulars of the occurrence iBO far as 1 have been able 'to learn :— ln the month of Januarly last the wife of a Finnish captain in the employ of Nobel, the great petroleum firm, went to visit some friends living on the outskirts of the town. As she had not returned home by midnight, her husband started out to escort her home, but found on reaching the firendVhouße that his- wife had left some two hours previously. On the following morning the husband, having vainly searched all night for bis missing wife, gave notice to the police, and every means were used to discover* what had become of the poor woman so mysteriously spirited away. Two months passed and no trace of the missing woman was discovered, to the sorrow of the husband, who spent the whole of his time in jnstitut- j ing inquiries in the hope of at last finding his wife. "Quite recently, however, "by some chance, the mystery was discovered and the j woman traced- It would appear that as the woman was passing through a lonely part of the road home she' was suddenly seized by j four men, who threw a shawl over her head 1 and carried i ter off, as she afterwards discovered, to a Persian craft lying at anchor in the. harbor. ¥ er captors, who were Persians, at once set safl for the Persian .shores and the woman was carried off to Teheran, where she was lodged, its is said, in a royal harem; and where it ia supposed she still remains. I understand that this case of abduction has fprmed the tubiect of a strong represent*; tion on the part of the Russian Minister at Teheran, and the immediate surrender of the woman, who is of course a Russian subject,' has been demanded. The woman, who is a Swede by birth, possesses considerable personal attractions, which, no doubt, were the cause of her abduction by the agents of the Shah. The whole matter- has' hitherto been kept quiet ; but it must in a- short tinje become the subject of discussion both in Russian society and the press, the more so that the relations between the government of the Shah and that of his ; Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Russia have not been marked for some time past by any extreme cordiality.
