' itKSSRS G6LDSBOROUGH AND COMPANY'S WOOL REPORT. \y >; : (butter's telegbams)

■ Received Feb, 15, 9.10 p.m. Feb 15. — Messrs Goldsborbugh and Company (limited) issued their annual review of the past wool season today. They report that during the season the following quantities have been sold :— Of Victorian wools, 156,000 bales ; decrease as compared with last year of 2000, which is distributed to - the period of drought from which the .colony suffered. Of New South Wales wools, 85,000; and of South Australian, 84,000 ; making a total of 275,000, .sWhfch is, slightly above the total of last year's sales. Priceß realised for rough crossbreds and heavy merinos were irregular, and closed at Id to ljd below prices at the opening of the season. Messrs Goldsbajtpugh expressed their opinion that if a ' reaction snould set in among manufacturers in favour of English bright hair, some eUases of colonial wools will suffer heavily ; and they therefore advise growers to breed "puite merinos of a class specially adapted to the Australian climate. The Continental trade has been a marked feature of the season. Evporta to antwerp alone amounted to 18,750 bales, and altogether 28,000 bales have been sold for transmission to the Continent, These facts Messrs Goldsborough consider to be indicative of a large prospective trade in wool between the Australian colonies and the continent. In the American t trade the demand has been less than expected, jind only 5800 bales were sold here "*orthe American market, including aquan.Jjw flipped from Sydney. The total ex- : wted to the New World, however, was ' 8300 bales. The crop is expected to be con* ftiaerably below the average, and it is Impossible to form a reliable estimate at the present time. The quantity hitherto exxtfortpd is as follows :— Viotoria, 250,000 New South Wales, 161,000; South TLosfcralia, 106,000 ; Queensland, 240,000 ; showing a decrease, as compared with last year, of 46,750 bales. In conclusion, Messrs Goldsborough declare that everything points to Australia as the great wool market of the 'Jfnture,' ■■ >
