SUICIDE BY POISON.

Some sensation was caused in town la«t evening by the report that a man named Wils >n had committed suicide by poisoning •it Waiora farm. It appears that yesterday afternoon Wilson supplied himself with a revolver and a bottle of poison, and went out to Mr Craig's farm-house on the Kai Iwi Line, and demanded to see Mr Craig. Mrs Craig informed Wilson that her husband was absent from home, and he then demanded to see one of the girls, for the purpose, as he said, of asking her whether certain stories circulated about him were true. Mrs Craig refused, and said she should not permit it until Mr Craig came home. Wilson threatened to force his way to where the girl was, and to knock in the door. In the meantime Mrs Craig sent for one of the men to remove him, and Wilson left. His conduct was most eccentric, and he commenced chasing one of the girls. She ran into the house and Wilson followed. He produced a revolver aud threatened to shoot Mrs Craig ; then he put it down and showed her a bottle of poison which he said he would drink . The revolver having been laid on the ' table, Mrs Craig smartly seized and removed it, and then tried to take the bottle of poison from him. In this, however, she failed, and he again left the house, and apparently swallowed the poison. Mrs Craig subsequently found him lying on the ground suffering from its effects, and assistance was immediately procured for his removal to the Hospital, where he died in a few minutes after he was received. Deceased was uamarried, and about 30 years of age, and had been looked upon as a respectably behaved young man. He had, however, of late been addicted to drink. He had b^en engaged with at veral settlers in and around Wanganui, and two years ago was in the employ of Mr Craig. Eighteen months ago he went South, and returned about three weeks ago. • For some time it was evident that something was preying on his mind, and which was the cause of the rash act. An inquest was held at the Hospital this afternoon.
