Wellington, May 15. The reported removal of Mr Bathgate as R.M. to Wellington, Mansford to take Dunedin is incorrect. Bathgate has obtained a year's leave of absence to visit Britain and will lecture in Scotland on the Colony. John Ooogan'a unsecured creditors have accepted Thompson and Shannon's offer of 3s in the £ cash.
• A tender, name not disclosed, accepted for the first section of the Otago Central Railway. A very valuable poodle dog, presented to Lady Robinson in Ohristchurch has been stplen. At the Wasta Lands Board to-day it was stated that 410 acres of .land in the various districts had been sold for £800 ; the sum received on account being £244.. A return was laid on the table showing that during the month of April the quantity of land sold was 4&I acres,- for which £1885 Is 7d was received in cash, and £2627 in scrip. The Chief Surveyors report showed that 23,000 acres of land were under survey in the variouß districts. The Divorce Court will be. opened on Monday next. A visitor to the Hospital gives a deplorable account of the neglected state of the patients there. H. H. Stafford's Upton Fella Eun at Awatere was sold by auction to-day to the Bank of New Zealand for £34,000. Nelson, May 16.
On Wednesday night two girls named Smith, aged respectively 17 and 19, fell into the Wairau river and narrowly escaped drowning. They were botli much exhausted when rescued. Dunedin, May 16. The tramway will be ready for opening in the course of two or three weeks.
Next licensing day there will be 185 applications made for publicans' and bottle licenses.

Edward Hart, who was found on the beach yesterday, is still in a precarious condition.
Chbistchurch, May 16.
Wilson's shop, next to the Queen's Hotel has been burned down. Stock insured for £200. Wilson was formerly in the leather trade,, and the shop was then occupied. It mysteriously caught fire.
