WANGANUI STEEPLECHASE MEETING.
The sale of the privileges at the forthcoming steeplechase meeting attracted n considerable number to Anderson's Hotel on Yredne&day evening. The Hon. Hoc, Mr F. R. Jackson, officiated as auctioneer, and after reading the conditions of sale put up as the first lot the " Gate." The charges for entrance were given out as Is for foot passengers, 2s Gd for equestrians, and 2s Gd for a vehicle, with Is for every passenger contained in said vehicle. Starting at £-10, the gate went smartly up by £1 bids to £6Q, at which price it was secured by Mr Fordcr. The Grand Stand was next submitted, the charges for which being fixed at 5s for the lower part, and 2s Gd for the upper. This lot caused a rather spirited competition, but finally fell to Mr Jas. J. Anderson's bid of £68. The Grand Stand booth and two luncheon rooms were passed in at £21 , but after the sale the auctioneer disclosed the reserve of the Club, £30, at which, figure the privilege was taken by Mrs Bapley, of the Prince of Wales Hotel. A fruit stall realized £1, while for the right of selling tho 'Krect card there was a keen demand. The cards are printed by the Club, and, the price put upon each, Is. The right was at last obtained by Mr Eeles, for the sum of £7. The stabling fell to Mr D. Lind for the sum of £3 15s, thus making a total of £175 15s for the privileges of one days' racing. This result is extremely satisfactory to the members of the Jockey Club, and it is a proof of the estimation in which the meeting is held.
