Fair Maid was first away, folloAved by Bide-a-Wee and .Why. Not. The bay mare kept the lead well during the first round, but on nearing the road before coming to the straight the last time, she gave way to Why iS Tot, a having Bide-a-Wee as an immediate attendant. From this point the three, although running- wide, came up to the enclosure at an equal pace, when Why Xot made for the front, winning bynbout three lengths. Time—3 mm. 12 sees. At the fall of the flag the whole got away well together, but Rob Roy took the lead, which place he keptduring the first round, waited on closely by tl^e black mare and the filly. On'passinothe grand stand, Fair Helen ran should der to shoulder with Rob Roy, o a i n j n<) - slightly during the whole of thc°second round. When the straight was made for the last time Cornelia put on a spurt, and came in a winner by about

Cornelia and Tornado being stratched, it loft only thvee to come to the start. It was from the first evident that the Maid would have her own way,' the rider being scarcely able to hold the bay mare in ; who. however, as Avill be seen from the time the mile Avas done in, took it very easily. Bully for You. on coming up the straight, made a good attempt to catch the Maid, but it\vas useless. The second heat Avas but a repetition. The three were despatched to a. pretty start/the Maid and Cornelia keeping well tog-ether when half round the course. It was a well; contested race,; ami as the two came up the straight neck and neck it was- doubtful which horse Svonld pass the post first; however, Conie'iia proved the better one of the two, as she won by :about half a head. Time, 2 mm.

It was then evident that Fair Helen and.Comet were struggling for the victory, and came up the straight shoulder to shoulder, the former winning by a head. Betting : Even on Fair Helen ; even on-Cornelia.
This race took more the character of a match, only Cornelia, having a stone -extra to carry, stood not much chance of winning. After an excellent start, Pair Helen took the lead, Cornelia being- close behind, and, on coming to the straight, tried hard to make a-head, but failed, the black mare coming in a winner by a length. Time, 3 mm 2 sec.
