.\ A terrible explosion of nitro-gly-cerine occurred on June 16, at about 6 miles fromy ; Carnarvon., A ship laden with the dangerous compound, had .arrived.at(Carnarvon bar -from Liverpool, and the cargo was conveyed in boats to Carnarvon-pier. In the afternoon two cartloads were 'on the way to Assheton - Smith's quarries at Llanberis, and three to Lord Penrhyn's quarries ait-Bethesa'a; The two cartloads exploded nearCwymglo about 6 o'clock-, 1 arid the effects were most terrible. The horses and three men were blown to'atoms/ the cart wheels and other portions of the conveyances were thrown nearly a mile into an adjacent village. The road for a quarter of a mile was greatly injured, and besides .the des^ truction of windows much damage was done to several houses. At the spots where the; carts were standing were two round holes 6 feet deep and 7 feet in diameter. The railway station about 40 yards off was blown to pieces, while the whole valleys at' the foot of Snowden, and two large, lakes, suffered from the tremendous' shock. An extraordinary amount of damage has been done all round the adjoining valley. A very great shock' was felt at Carnarvon and Bangor, and for miles around. Portions of human remains were found scattered about, and three quarrymen, 300 yards off, were severely, injured. Altogether five persons perished. At.the inquest a verdict was,return-, ed of "Accidental death."
