Sept. 3rd. The Star of the South has arrived/ She brings Auckland papers of the 30th nit., being- one day's latter than those previously received. The steamer Hero, from Sydney, arrived on the 29th, with 100 passengers, and £20,000 for investment in the Thames gold fields. Karl Belmore did not sail in the Hero, owingl to her crowded state. Among- the steamer's cargo were two velocipedes. The Phoebe arrived on Saturday evening,- afcer a rough passage. NELSON. 3rd Sept, 1.45 pm. Dr. Combe, Barrister-at Law, who joined the late Mr Pointer in business fourteen months ago committed suicide last night by cutting his thront. No caxise can be assigned. An inquest will be held this evening. DUNEDIK. 3rd Sept, 1.55 p.m. A reef at Cromwell opened, yielding from 5 to 6 ounces to the tori. The reef grows thicker as they drive.
