Friday, August 27. The Government have received intelligence to-day from Napier by telegraph, to the following effect:— The latest news from Taupo is thatv Te Kooti had arrived there; there is' no~ definite information as to the strength of his band.

Te Poihipi and Hare are apprehensive of an attack from him. The portion of the Armed Constabulary who are at present holding posts to protect the extension of the telegraph line to Taupo, have taken up a position at Ruananga, and will be able to watch the movements of Te Kooti. One hundred mounted natives are to leave Hawke's Bay on Monday, to support their friends, if necessary.
