£30,000 WORTH OF PROPERTY

There was a great fire in Revellstreet, north, at 5, o'clock this morning.
Seventeen houses were burnt, and two pulled down.
The fire broke out in Levy's oyster saloon, and took the Casino, the Rising Sun, Meyersteins (ironmongers), Moss (stationer), Ramnge (tailor), Cavill (confectioner), Southland Hotel (Hansen's), Ross (fruiterer), Goldstein, (clothier), Webb (fruiterer), Oriental Hotel, Johnstone (ironmonger), Osborne (watchmaker), Hawore (ironmonger), Tilbrook (printer), Last (dentist). The estimated loss is £30,000.
Immense damage has been done by the removal of stock. The firo brigade behaved splendidly.
The wind was happily light, and chopped favorably to enable both sides to bo subdued.
The cause of the fire is unknown ; it is believed to have been a foul chimney.
Cassius is the heaviest loser ; his property destroyed was worth £3000, and was not insured.

An enquiry will be held. I\ To lives were lost, but three people were injured by the fall of houses. One Gawno, a grocer, was seriously hurt, but is now out of danger.
