TAUPO.
Mr Bold and Mr Grindell returned from Taupo on the evening of Thursday last. On their journey down they crossed the track of a large native war party.
A meeting" of the Native Land Court was being- held at Oruanui, Taupo. The judges were J. B. White and T. H. Smith, Esqrs. There was a large attendance of natives, but the Arawa went off immediately that they heard of Te Kooti's movements.
A party of Hauhaus had passed through Taupo for the Uriwera country.
The friendly natives of Taupo feel very uneasy, but Capt. St. George does not apprehend any immediate
outbreak. Tfce king, however, it ia • ' said, intends; to occupy some confiscated land neair i Tarariaki, and, if opposed in doing so, he will regard it as a challenge to fight. No doubt this will be land near the White Cliffs, the scene of late murders. The latest intelligence, we believe, is that Te Kooti has moved from the Bay of Plenty towards Taupo, and is at a place called Tauaroa, near Runanga. He may make for the Uriwera or Waikato country.—N. Z. Herald, March 20.
