Public Notices. FIRE BRIGADE. LAST APPEAL TO THE INSUR- . - ' ANCE COMPANIES. : AT a meeting- held on the Bth inst ofthe Wangaaui Fire Brigade, it was decided to appeal to., the Insurance Companies through the medium of the press, for the last time, for their oft promised assistance in the way- of procuringl a Fire Engine. ■ t The Brigade desire to bring to the notice of the Companies, represented in Wanganui, the large interests; they have at stake, and their comparatively unprotected position, consequent on the absence of all appliances for extinguishing fires, j : This fact was recognised by each of the Companies, s when r it promised to contribute to a fund for the purchase of an engine... There..has, however. bee"n no inclination^ to redeem that promise. Some months ago the London &• Liverpool office.promised an engine on its own account, which originated .in; an -offer made by the Colonial office in Wellington. The engine has not come, and the Brigade - suppose the intentions of'the Company respecting it have • changed, The 18th R. I. being;about to leave, | the town will be without an engine, and the services of an organised Brigade will be rendered useless.! In the presence of these facts, the Brigade have resolved that if assis-tance-from the Insurance Companies, or others, is not given to procure an engine, steps will be taken to disband the Brigade. : : ' By Order S.COLEMAN, j • Secretary.
