MEETING OF CHIEFS AT TARANAKI DECLARE FOR PEACE.
(From the Post Correspondent.) Dec. 5. Nelson, 2.15 p.m. 151 natives arrived at Taranaki from the Chatham Islands, in the barque Collingwood. They are quiet and peaceful, and going- to settle down. There was a large meeting of native friendly chiefs held at Taranald; it vvas conducted in an orderly peaceful manner, and great courtesy and kindness were shown to Mr Parris, the Superintendent, and other Europeans. Meeting favorable to peace, and friendly. A letter from the chief Patara, in the Herald newspaper slip, urging peace with Europeans, and strongly recommending the natives to lire quietly in the various , settlements of Okati, Tataraimakii,, and Kuro, and leave the settlement.bf any dispute to the laws. ; The news is deemed very good.
