THE AUSTRIAN ARMY.

We have now details of the proposed reorganisation of the Austrian army. Every Austrian male subject having- completed his 20th year is liable to serve five years in the active army, five in the reserve, and four in the landwehr; altogether fourteen years of military life! In case of a general levy, every male from 18 tJ 40 may be called under arms whether he has completed his term of service or not. The armed force consists of, first, the army of the country and the landwehr; second, the general levy. The army of the country is so arranged that to every infantry regiment of" the line is added an infantry regiment of reserve, and to every regiment of cavalry is added a squandron of leserve. These reserves are always to be in the recruiting- district to which they belong-. Each year will see 100,000 men added to the army of the country. The excess of the troops not havino- accomplished the year of obligatory service forms a reserve of replacement, which, should war threaten, is called to arms by the Emperor, and divided among the army of the country and the landwehr. This contingent is estimate! at 130,000 men. The regiments of reserve are placed upon a war footing'at the same time as the regiments of the line, and form with these last the front line of the army ot oj.erat.on. Even in-ending ecclesiastics are not free from service. They may obt;iin leave for the prosecution of their studies, and when they become priests they are attached.to.-the army as pay mas ers or hospital attendants. Those persons who, on account, of physical infirmity, are incapable of serving in the -irmy, and those who lor family reasons do not periunn military service, are hound to pay a sum in.proportion to then- means for the benefit ot army invalids, it is expected that this new scheme will meet with much opposition in Hungary It is stated, that the War Minister will ask immediately for a contingent of 5)4,000 men, of which Hungary will have to furnish 37,000.
