BOROUGH COUNCIL.

On Wednesday evening last the Mayor, and Crs. Whyte, Suisted, Organ, Stitt, Blacklock, Munson, and Sheahan transacted business as follows : CORRESPONDENCE. The Mayor read copy of lector forwarded to the Attorney-General, submitting questions for his opinion re Mnnicipality of Westport and Local Revenues Act. A letter from the Town Clerk of Hokitika, stating, in reply to enquiry, that one-half of the proceeds of sales of lands within the Municipal boundaries of Hokitika is handed over to the corporation, le«s certain expenses attending such sales, was received and acknowledged. GENERAL BUSINESS. The following accounts were passed for payment:—C. H. Webb-Bo wen 10s Gd ; George Barton, £1 10s ; Town' Clerk, 7 weeks salary, £l4 ; George

Carruthers, 10s Gd ; J. B. M'Connell, 5 shillings, Proposed by the Mayor, and seconded by Or, Suisted, That a sub-Committee be appointed to co-operate with the lloiid Board members in urging the General Government to continue the Nine Mile Road on the north bank of Buller River and if necessary the Council to contribute towards making a rough survey of the route. The Committee to consist of Messrs Organ, Whyte and the mover. Carried. Cr. Whyte voting against the motion. Proposed by Cr. Organ, and seconded by the Mayor, That a Committee be appointed to wait upon his Honor the Superintendent on his arrival in Westport, with a view to ascertaining in whose hands the Westport reserves are now vested, and arriving sit some definite understanding with regard to the same. Said Committee to consist of Crs Thorpe, Whyte, Sheahan and the mover. Carried unanimously. Cr. Thorpe being absent, and no other Councillor having a written authority from him to act on his behalf, the notice of motion, (re Bright street improvement) standing in his name, lapsed.
