The schooner 10, Captain Pearn, from Melbourne to Westport, left Pert Phillip Heads on the 3rd, and experienced light southeasterly winds and calms until 8 p.m. on the 4th, when »lie mot a light breeze from tt».

On the llth, hove to for twelve hours in consequence of a strong south- westerly gale with a very heavy sea, which broke over and filled the vessel's decks. Made Cape Foulwind on Tuesday, the 13th, at 4 a.m., and was becalmed until noon. Anchored in the roadstead at 4 p.m. that day, and was towed across the bar bv the s.s. Murray, on Thursday at 2 a.m. VVe understand thac Captain Wade, who previously commanded this vessel, has been appointed to the schooner Kate Conley, belonging to the same owners. We noticed the departure of the s.s. Wallabi from Wanganui for this port. In place of coming direct to Westport she proceeded to Greymouth, arriving there yesterday morning. She was to leave for Westport yesterday evening, and will sail for Kelson and Wanganui this afternoon.

The s.s. Murray, Captain Palmer, sailed for Hokitika on Thursday afternoon, arriving the following morning. The Anchor Line s.s. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell, owing to the dirty weather on Thursday, delayed her departure for the south until yesterday. She sailed at 4.30 p.m., and is announced to leave Westport for Nelson at 6 p.m. on Monday. The ship Chile, with the first part of the Rangitata bridge plant, is expected at Timaru about Deo. 20.
