During the past two or three weeks the wool market has undergone no substantial change. The prices are low, and holders are indisposed to meet the market. Under favorable circumstances there must be a large accumulation of stocks for the November sales, and the depression, caused by the war, must prevent any improvement on closing quotations, and the prolongation of hostilities will result in further depression. The following are the quotations : South Australian wool Is to Is 3d; Sydney and Port Phillip quoted—greasy, hand-washed, and scoured 6d to 2s; Tasmauian, 3d to Is 7d; New Zealand, 5d to Is 9d. The arrivals for October and November will be unusually large. Tallow is in good demand at an advance of 3d per cwt. for better qualities. Speculation is rife on a large increase in prices generally, occasioned by a partial cessation of manufactures in France and Germany. Wheat is expected to rise considerably. Flax is slow of sale. Several lots at auction have been bought in or withdrawn; 400 bales sold at £5 12s to £l2 per ton. Gum, medium quality is quoted at 455, good at 50s per cwt. Hides, common to superior, H to sf. Colonial securities are dull, the following are the closing quotations :

Queensland 108J to 108f; Six per cents, 107 to 109; New South Walea Five per cents, 109|- to 101$ Liverpool market quotations are aa follow:—Californian wheat, 9a lOd ; flour, 235. There is an active demand for Californian flour for export; superfine, 4 dols. G2-1 cents to 4 dols 75 cents; extra ditto, 5 dols 62£ cents to 5 dols. 87 £ cents. For wheat thjro is a fair enquiry; sacks, ordinary to choice, 1 dol. 50 cents to 1 dol 70 cents. Barley is in moderate request at reduced rates; for new the quotationa are 1 dol. 5 cents to 1 dol, 10 cents. In oats the transactions have been light, aud present prices are from 1 dol. 10 cents to 1 dol. 30 cents per 100 lbs. Potatoes are in active demand at 1 dol. to 1 dol. 50 cents per 100 lbs.
