LATE TELEGRAMS.
The Union Steam Navigation Company has failed to make up the capital for the purchase of the plant of the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company. Mr Tancred's Borough School Bill has been read a second time. Mr Fish has been elected Mayor of Dunedin. Mr Reynolds was at the bottom of the poll with only 28 votes. Some coal from Mr Hart's pit, Malvern Hills, was burned in the House of Representatives on Friday. It was found to be very much superior to either Australian or English coal. The Hon. John Hall called the special attention of members to this circumstanco, and alluded to it as a triumphant answer to recent assertions in the House against New Zealand coal. The Waikaremoana expedition under Hamlin and Witty has returned to Wairoa. The whole of the Ureweras have given in. Makarini aud Hono Hori, principal chiefs, and several others, have come down with our force to Wairoa as representatives of their tribes, to confer with Mr Ormond as to the terms of submission.
