John Penn arrived at Westport from Hokitika and Greymouth yesterdaymorning early and sailed at 1 p.m. the same day for Wanganui and Auckland. The s.s. Kennedy, Capt. Whitwell, arrived at Nelson on Friday last, and left the following evening for the We«t Coast, arriving at Westport shortly after midnight on Sunday. The Kennedy sailed for Hokitika early this morning, and will call at Westport on her return trip to Nelson on Friday next. The schooner Northern Light sailed for Melbourne yesterday in tow of the s.s. John Penn.

The s.s. Murray was to have left Nebon for the West Oast on Saturday, but on the eve of starting some accident occurred to her machinery, which necessitated a few days delay to effect repairs. RosaWo arrived in Wellington on Ihe 12th from Bounty Islands, whither she has been on a cruise to see if any traces of the Matoaka were to be discovered. Nothing waa seen of either wreck or castaways. The Blanche is now on the same errand at the Auckland Islands, and may be expected in a short time. The barque Gloucester sailed from Wellington on the Bth instant, for London. Her cargo consisted of fio6 bales of wool, 621 bags of flax and tow, 71 pkgs of skins, 937 pkgs of tallow, and a quantity of miscellaneous goods, consisting of wine, iron, butter, jams, bones, copper, &c.; the whole valued at £20,000. Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood, and Co. are about to inaugurate a new traffic —steam communication with the Fiji Islands. They announce that they will despatch one of their New Zealand boats to Fiji early in August, should sufficient, inducement offer.
