MY NATIVE LAND.

Land of my birth so long forsaken, Shall I never see thee more, Am I doom'd to wander ever, Exiled on a foreign shore. Forsaken, but forgotten never, Cherished is thy memory still. Every hill, and vale and meadow, Every copse, and sparkling rill. But the fondest memories ever Cluster round the quaint old place, "Where my happiest days were spent Long ere sorrow left its trace. I love the grand old hills, "Whose summits wrapp'd in cloud, Like giant sentinels on guard, My dear old home surround. And the well remembered landscape, With its sloping pastures green, The heath-crowned heights in the disBath'd in the sunset's sheen. [tance, Yes, my heart in its sad yearning, Ever turns in thought to thee, Dear native land, bright home of freedom, Peerless gem of the azure sea. L. J.
