The s.s. John Perm, Captain Carey, left Onehunga, on Thursday, the 19th inst., and arrived off Wanganui bar the following evening at 7 o'clock, and alongside at 2 a.m. on Saturday. Sailed again on Monday at 3.30 p.m. for West Coast porta. In consequence of very strong head wind and heavy sea anchored under the Sand Spit for shelter ; left the anchorage on Wednesday morning at 10.30, and arrived off the Buller on Thursday morning early. The Penn will leave here for Dunedin and intermediate ports on Sunday morning. She will remain in Dunediu lor a week or ten days, and then return to the West Coast, via Lyttelton and Wanganui, and thence to Mannkau, resuming her usual trade. The s.s. Murray left Nelson on Wednesday at 4 p.m., and arrived at Westport the following afternoon. Discharged cargo, and proceeded to southern ports the same evening. She will call at Westport to-day on her return trip to Nelson. The s.s. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell, left Nelson on Wednesday, shortly after the Murray, and arrived here, under easy steam from Eock's Point, on the afternoon of Thursday. She sailed for southern ports last night, and will call at Westport on Monday, proceeding to Nelson on Tuesday. The s.s. Wallabi, Captain Daniels, left Wanganui on Monday, at 3 p.m. Encountered strong head wind and very heavy sea, which necessitated her running for shelter, and protracted her passage to this port. She arrived alongside the wharf on Thursday at 7 p.m., discharged her cargo of stock and produce, and sailed for Greyuiouth yesterday evening.
The brig Van Galen, laden -with gin, from Rotterdam, arrived at Dunedin on the 10th instant.
The s.s. Gothenburg passed this port at mid-day on Thursday, en route for Nelson from G reymouth. The steamship Beautiful Star has been drifted up the VVanganui river and moored along-side the Government wharf; all the water has been pumped out of the vessel, and the. hole, which is under f he boiler, temporarily repaired In all probability the vessel started for Dunedin about Thursday or Friday last.
The wreck of the schooner Challenge, as she now lies stranded outside the Manukau Heads, has been purchased at Onehunga for £■2o. The purchaser anticipates a large profit.
