The arrival of the steamship Wonga Wonga at Auckland, on the evening of the 9th, furnishes European and American intelligence to April 4th. "We abridge a tew items from the Colonist of Tuesday. The bill, enforcing the law in Ireland, provides for the trial of some cases without jury, for the suspension of Habeas Corpus, and holds the press responsible for inciting disturbances ; it has passed the House of Commons. Mr Gladstone's Land Reform Bill is unpopular in Ireland. A rumor is current that Mr Bright will resign his ministerial seat, and as an item of some little local interest it is stated that the Marquis of Bute is shortly to visit New Zealand. Charles Dickens, it is anticipated will be offered a peerage. Telegrams dated Paris, April 4th, state that a new conspiracy to overthrow the Government has been discovered, and numbers arrested ; and that the trial of Prince Pierre Bonaparte for shooting M. Noir has resulted in the infliction of a fine of 25,000 francs. The lightness of the sentence is stated to have excited great indignation. Prom Washington we learn that, in consequence of the American Consul having been imprisoned by Haytian insurgents, the English and American fleets have proceeded to Hayti; and with respect to the new mail route, that a bill to subsidise a 2000 ton steamer from San Francisco has passed the Senate, and is now pending before the Lower House. Postal Committee, in the matter of a mail from San Francisco to China, recommend a subsidy of £250,000 per annum.
