April *27—Charles Edward, p.s., Holmes, for Nelson. PASSENGER LIST. Per Charles Edward, from Greymouth— Misses Cash (2), Messrs Hanking, Faila, and Constable. The steamer Charles Edward left Greymouth at 4 p.m. on Monday for Hokitika, but unable to muke that port owing to severe south-easterly weather and a heavy sea, directed her course to Westport, where she arrived early the following morning, discharged cargo not landed at Hokitika, which will be taken on by the steamer Kennedy, and left yesterday for Nelson at 9 a.m. A private telegram has been received to the effect that the steamship Beautiful Star had put back to Nelson in consequence of the violent weather. She will probably arrive to-ilay. The s.s. Kennedy is not telegraphed as having yet left Nelson for West Coast ports. Tho s.s. Gothenburg was announced to leave Melbourne for New Zealand pcrts via Hokitika on Thursday last. Mr F. J. Syme, late chief-officer of the s.s. Ruahine, has met his death by drowning. The accident occurred on the 30th December, on board the ship Bogota, from Liverpool to Valparaiso. A violent gale on, and the unfortunate gentleman was swept overboard by a heavy sea.
