MORE NEW GROUND NORTHWARD.

Under a similar heading on Tuesday we reported that a prospecting area was being tried by a party between the Caledonian and German Terraces. Several have visited the ground, which is on a spur seaward of the Caledonian, but not much is yet known of its probable value. On Tuesday an application for an extended claim at the Fairdown Terrace was made to the Warden by Farquhar Smith aud party, and it will be hoard in the usual course. The party did not pursue their first purpose of obtaining a prospecting claim. The ground is very favorably spoken of. There is said to be seven feet of wash so superficial as to be capable of being sluiced, and rich enough to pay very handsomely.
