Superintendents Office, Nelson, 26th February, 1870. lAMUEL JOHN LORING is hereby authorised, under the provisions of Section XIII of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," to keep a Fen-y Boat on the Totara River, and charge tolls, from the Ist January until the 31st December, 1870, as per schedule, on the following conditions: — 1. That a competent Ferryman be always in attendance, with a good safe boat and proper rope for crossing horses. 2. That all Government Officers, including road overseers, and postmen, when on duty, shall be ferried across the said river free of charge. This protection shall not be transferred without the consent in writing of the Warden of the district. The "Warden of the distinct shall, on being satisfied that the Ferry service is not conducted in a proper and efficient manner and in accordance with the above conditions, have power to suspend the operation of this protection until the matter of complaint be removed.
