THE CHRISTMAS SPORTS.
{To the Editor of the Wesfporf, Times.) Sin, —Being deputed by fie Committee of the Westport Sports Committee, with two other gentlemen, as a deputation to confer with the Westport Jockey Club as to tuo desirability
of having the town sports on Boxing day, I, with the others, waited on that august body, but we were unable to even get au interview. After waiting an hour or more, we were told it was no use our waiting. The Jockey Club had determined to have Boxing day. I do not think the Jockey Club will find their funds much increased by their snobbish conduct. There are several, to my knowledge, who would not have given a penny unless the races and sports were amalgamated, and who gave their money with that impression. The Westport Sports Committee had no intention of hostility to the Jockey Club; hence their desire to see them before naming a day. I for one am sorry we ever gave them a thought, and shall do our best to have our sports on Boxing day. There is not another Jockey Club in the Colonies that holds a meeting before New Year'B Day. Apologising for troubling you so far, — I am yours, &c, Enw. Smxkk.
