The steamer Charles Edward arrived in port on Tuesday afternoon, making the port safely and smartly, though it was so thick and hazy that none of the ordinary land-marks could be well distinguished. The storm in the midst of which she arrived has since containued, and her intended departure yesterday morning was postponed until to-day. The Charles Edward comes to the coast on this occasion under command of Captain Holmes, who has for the present superseded Captain Palmer. Captain Holmes will be well-remembered as for a considerable time commander of the steamer Murray. The retirement of Captain Palmer will be regretted by most people who have travelled with him, and who are acquainted with his efficiency as a seaman apd his attention as an officer. The probability is that, on the arrival of the s.s. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell will be appointed to the command of the Charles Edward.
