The steamer John Ptnn is appointed to sail on Thursday from Westport for Nelson and the Manukau.
The operations for raising the s.s. Taranuki hare been so far successful as to warrant the conclusion that she will bo brought to the surface in about ten days, when it is proposed, by the aid of divers, to temporarily stop the leak and pump the vessel out.
Two gentlemen have called for tenders in London and Glasgow for the construction of a large steamer for the Thames Goldfield. The now bout is to be capable of steaming fifteen knots an hour, and of carrying five hundred passengers ; and, as soon as the tenders are accepted, the work will be rapidly pushed on. She will be brought out in sections, under the superintendence of a competent person, and put together in Auckland a3 Soon as possible after arrival.
