Tho steam-tug Lioness camo to grief at Hokitika on Tuesday, while attempting to tow out tho schooner Martha and Lavina. Tho tug was piled up on the North Spit, but tho master of the schooner quickly canted his vessel's head, let go his anchor, and was perfectly safe. He afterwards was towed (o the wharf by the Waipara, and moored again. The large new turret ship built by Messrs Palmer and Co., Jarrow-on-tho-Tyao, for the Admiralty, made a trial trip off the Northumberland coast, on June 5, and her performance was deemed satisfactory. She left for Woolwich on Juno 7, thence to proceed to Melbourne, where she will be kept for tho defence of tho harbor.— European Mail. A notice was posted at Lloyd's, on June 11, reporting that a Dutch barque had picked up one of the missing boats of the ship Blue Jacket, from New Z: aland for London, burnt; at sea. Only seven people are said to have been in the boat ; it was picked up 400 miles east of the Falkland Islands. No mention is made of the 4000 sovereigns which were put into the boat when she left the Blue Jacket. The above was reported to tho Cubana, from San Eianciseo for Liverpool, who omitted to obtain tho name of the Dutch barque, or where she was bound. — Ibid.
