As often happens, Sunday was not a Sabbath in shipping matters. On the morn iug tide the Lioness brought the barque Nightingale in, tho s.s. Murray brought herself in, and the wind brought in the Jane Elkin, Satellite, and Alert. In the evening the Charles Edward came in, and the Lioness w»nt out.
There was a depth of fourteen feet of water on the Buller bar on Sunday and yesterday.
The brig Prince Edward, Captain Pa'.lant, owned by Piggot Brothers, of Melbourne, which lei't Newcastle on the 13tll of July, bound for Timaru, loaded with coals, has foundered close to the Solanders. On the 29th, at 3 p.m., she was struck by a heavy sea, which carried away her forward gear, and caused her to leak very much. The pumps were set going, but the water gained upon them very fast. At 10 a.m., on the 30th, the captain gave orders to man the boats, and just as they pushed away from her side she went down. All hands saved. The crew arrived at the Bluff at 2 p.m. on Monday last; two or three of the poor fellows having been so long exposed to flic weather as necessitated their removal to the hospital.
