VOLUNTEER EIRE BRIGADE.
i In compliance with a requisition, (Mr Tyler, as Chairman of the Progress Committee, called a meeting, which was held last evening at the Masonic Hall, Empire Hotel, for the purpose of considering the advisability of forming a Volunteer Fire Brigade iu Westport. The meeting was numerously attended. The receipt, by telegraph, of the news by the English mail, at an hour equally late with that at which the meeting was held, precludes us from reporting more than its mere restut.
Mr Tyleti was called to the chair. Mr E. Wiiyte moved " That a Committeo consisting of twclvrs be appointed to organise a Fire Brigade in Westport." Mr Simpson seconded the motion, which was unanimously carried, and the following gentlemen were appointed as a Committee : —Messrs G. Clark, J. Simpson, W. Bishop, G. Pirie, W. Lloyd, Bowlands, Alcorn, Sheahan, O'Conor, Field, Suisted, and Carr.
The proceedings were terminated by a vote of thanks to the Chairman, on the motion of Mr J. Harris; and the Committee appointed immediately afterwards held their first meeting, at which it w r as resolved to write to the Provincial Secretary, Nelson, with regard to a fire-engine there which is understood to be available.
