A lecture of an admirable character, and especially appropriate as the introduction to a series of lectures in connection with an Athenoßum, was delivered by Dr Giles, at the Masonic Hall, on Tuesday evening; Judge Clarke presiding. The lecture was listened to with much interest by a pretty numerous audience, who sat with fortitude for several hours of an extremely cold night. The lecture was in itself so excellent in point of condensation that it would be impossible to condense even its points within the limits of a newspaper paragraph, and the space at our disposal prevents us from quoting any of the lecturer's graceful passages or his eloquent peroration. It must be enough, for the present, to say that the subjects of the lecture were "The Influences of Science and Literature."
