Business during the week has been very dull. Merchants complain of the holidays having interfered with the usual flow of business, and it has not yet regained its former activity. Breadstuff's are moving off in trade parcels, and stocks are light. Adelaide flour is firm at £IS 10s ; New Zealand do. at £l6 to .£l7. Oats are still scarce. A email consignment, ex Waipara from Nelson, of only medium quality, fetched -Is 4d at auction. Potatoes are plentiful; Nelson we quoto at £5 10s; Taieri do, £6 10. Kerosene has become very scr.rce, and holders refuse to quit under 4s. Candles are firm at previous quotations. Sugars are in request at advanced rates, and 08 there is little coming forward prices must yet advance ; Victoria Company's 2nd white we quoto at £SB, but wo hear of sales being effected at a higher figuro ; for good brown crystals £54 may be quoted as tho ruling price. In spirits transactions liaro been light, but prices well maintained. Geneva JDKZ, 3 gal. contents, wo quoto at 19s in bond_ Bottled ale and stout are little in demand. We quote Tennant's ale at 15s; Blood's 6tout at 14s 6d; other brands unsaleable. Prime Samples of butter are scarce and in demand ; quitting at Is 3Jd to Is 4d. In oilmen's Stores wo have little alteration to noto. Some lines aro getting scarce and prices have an upward tendency. Hams and bacon are fetching Is 5d and la 3d respectively.
