NELSON SOUTH-WEST GOLD-

FIELDS. BY Proclamation under the hand of the Superintendent, from and after the Ist June next, clauses 2 and 3 of Section VIII. of the Rules and Eegulations of the !N el son South-West G-oldfields are repealed, aud the following clauses are substituted for the 2. Tunnelling. Persona engaged in tunnelling to strike gold may be protected in the occupancy of a claim of a depth of 1,000 feet from the mouth of the tunnel, and a frontage of the length allowed in ordinary claims by Section 11. Clause 1. 3. Registration and Marking. Claims under the preceding Clause must be registered (after application, and the posting of notices in the manner provided in Section 1X.,) and the boundaries marked and maintained by rows of pegs placed not more than 50 feet apart, and such pegs shall be at right angles with the frontage of the hill, along the entire depth allowed. Provided that when from the irregularity of the face of the hill, or from any other difficulty arising from the nature of the ground, the claim cannot be advantageously marked out in accordance with the above regulations, it shall be lawful for the Warden, either after a personal inspection of the ground, or a report on the subject by a Surveyor, to define a base line from which any claim or claims may be marked out, instead of from the face of the hill, to the depth of 1,000 feet, or less, at the discretion of the Warden.
