COMMERCIAL.
We have to report more than usual activity in business during the week, large parcels of goods having been despatched to the various diggings, more especially to the Lyell and Caledonian. The Constant and Standard had full freights to Charleston, and we observe the Three Friends fast filling up for Brighton. In prices we have little alteration to note from last week's quotations. By the Beautiful Star a moderate supply of butter is to hand, and readily finds purchasers at Is 4d. Stocks of sugars are light, and several parcels have changed hands during the week at advanced prices. Kerosene is firm at 3s 9d. Oats are also scarce, and may be quoted at from 4s 6d to 4a 9d. Potatoes are plentiful. Wo quote at from £5 10s to £6. Flour is firm at last week's quotations. Messes Robebtson and Co. report the following sales for the week:— A cargo of produce ex Joseph Paul, at Charleston, on Wednesday, the 10th instant, including:—Potatoes, £6 15s per ton ; cases apples, 13s 6d each; eggs, 4s per dozen ; butter (salt), Is 4id, (fresh), Is 6d per lb ; chaff, £ls ss; oats, 5s per bushel; hay, .£l2 per ton; onions, 4d per lb. A cargo of cattle and sheep ex Wallabi, and a cargo of cattle and sheep ex Beautiful Star, on Monday, the 10th, which realised high rates.
