BRIGHTON.
(FROM OUR Own - CORRESPONDENT.) May 3. I have very great pleasure in acquainting our friends that the once famed Brighton district is beginning to awake as it were out of'a Ion" sleep. It is most extraordinary the life and animation prevailing in mining matters. Ground-sluicing is the " whole go " here. The miners are groundsluicingly mad. Claims previously abandoned are now taken up, and the race for them is between the swiftest j and the strongest. The cry is for l water ; extended claims are the order I of the day; and to show you that my representations are not exaggerated, there is a tremendous run on the old useless hotels in this town, for boxes, flumes, and the erection of good substantial huts. The old " Niagara" has been purchased by Schaaf and party for mining purposes, and transferred to the White Horse Terrace. I Cooke and party are now pulling! down the " British QueeD,"—locality,! White Horse Terrace. Sutherland andj party have pulled down the" Daylesfordj Hotel," once kept by " Sweet Bessy! Boyle,"—locality, Welshman's Terrace,! and in numberless other instances any old house for sale having -good] weather-boards or a corrugated ironj roof is immediately snapped up. This! is a healthy state of affairs, and I trust,; before three months are expired, in-j stead of sending our amalgam, &c, toj Charleston, and spending our super*! fluous cash there, we will enjoy it our-! selves in our snug and healthy littlei Brighton.
