Sydney, March 27. An. immense crowd assembled to witness the laying of the foundation stone of the statue in memory of Capt. Cook to-day by H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh. The Prince planted a memorial tree at St David's Church yesterday. He attended the CarandhnV benefit on the previous night, when there was an immense attendance. The Prince wai loudly cheered. March 29. A bushranger, who announced himself as Rutherford, was captured today by Sergeant Ferris, near Bathurst March 30. The guests of his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh formed a brilliant company on board the Galatea, last night, and dancing was kept up t» an early hour this morning. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the Duke's hospitality, and the fete wM pronounced by all a great success. Dr Watson, of H.M.S. Challenger, has been appointed successor to Br Toung, late surgeon of H.M.9Galatea. March 31. dead in Druii street, and supposed to hare been murdered. April 1. The Parliamentary dinner took place last night, his Excellency occupying the chair, with the Duke of Edinburgh as the principal guest. After dinner, his Boyal Highness attended the ball given by his Excellency at Government House.
