CHARLESTON.
(from ottr own correspondent.) It will be remembered tbat a memorial of the merchants, miners, and others resident in this district, was ferwarded, some fortnight ago, to His Honor the Superintendent of this Province, memorializing as to the quantity of extended areas or grants of land exceeding from three to five acres in extent. I have been favoured by Mr Johnson, solicitor, with a sight of the letter received by him, in answer to his enclosing the memorial to the Provincial Secretary. It is in the following terma : " Sib, —I have the honor to acknowledge receipt ofyour letter of Bth inst., enclosing a memorial from certain miners and others, resident at Charleston, relative to extended claims, and to state that, as the power to make alter and amend Eegulations for the (Joldfields in this Province has been delegated to the Superintendent, it will be unnecessary to forward the same to the G-overnor, as requested. 1 have, therefore, laid the memorial before the Superintendent, and I am directed to inform you, that the question raised by the memorial shall be carefully considered by the Executive, as soon as the Warden for the District has had an opportunity of reporting thereon."
