CALEDONIAN TERRACE.
(fkom: cms owsr cobbespoitdeu't.) Jan. 13. The miners here have all been steady at work since me or Srd instantj which completed their eight or ten holidays. During the last day or two there has been some cry for want of water. On the Bald Hill Braithwaite and party contemplate prospecting further, and are determined to go into it with a will, in the hope of making up for lost time. The township here presents a very dull appearance since Christmas. The tramway is working regularly, bringing timber to claims and firewood to the town's people. It is proposed to extend the tramway towards the German Terrace, a distance < f three-quarters of a mile, and it is to be hoped the enterprise will prove remunerative. The miners have been called upon to-day to record their votes for a member in the Provincial Council. Only forty have voted. Great dissatisfaction was expressed by many here in consequence of neither of the candidates putting in appearance, particularly Mr M'Dowell, who would, I believe, have polled many more votes, as some, justly, thought it scarcely worth their while to go from their claims to record their votes, when he did not come to address them or solitic their support.
