IVESTPORT. man water. This Bay ... 6.5 a.m., 629 p.m. ARRIVALS. Charles Edward, p.'S., Palmer, from Hokitika and Greymouth. N. Edwards and Co., agents. Murray, s.s., Holmes, from Greymouth. J. W. Kirby, agent. DEPARTURES. Charles Edward, p.s., for Nelson. Murray, s.s., for Nelson. The steamers Charles Edward and Murray arrived in port yesterday from the south, and, after a very short stay, sailed for Nelson. The steamer Kennedy is expected to leave Nelson for "Weitport this evening. The s.s. Waipara sails for southern ports at four o'clock this afternoon. The stump of a foremast, apparently having Iwlonged to a vessel of from 150 to 200 tons register, was washed ashore on the North Spit, at Hokitika, on Tuesday. The stick was much charred by fire at one end, 'the other eiid being entirely new timber. Conjecture whs busy amongst the pedestrians en the beaeli as to where it had come from. The West Coast Times imagines that the mast belonged to the Elizabeth, brigantine, the hull-of which was burned in the river, and it is known that her foremast was nearly new.
