The residents of Wanganui were seriously alarmed one night recently. It had heen arranged that, if an attack were made, two guns should he immediately fired. At midnight two steamers came into the port and both fired guns. The inhabitants were at once aroused, and the troops were on the qui vive, hut were happy to find that the alarm was groundless.
