I A meeting of the Sports Committee was held on Monday evening at the Victoria Hotel, when it was shown by the treasurer that upwards of £SOO was at the disposal of the Committee, derivable from the amount of subscrip-' tions, sale of booths, and entries. A few alterations were made in the programme, and are advertised to-day. The Butcher's Purse was made open io butchers' horses only. The distance i
for the Maiden Plate was altered to one mile instead of H miles, and the Consolation Stakes were includedinthe last day's races. It should be explained also that the jockey boots as given by Messrs Roberts and Simpson are to be a new pair of first-class jockeyboots, made to the order and measurement of the winner of the race for the Butcher's Purse. It was decided also that the course should be a circular one, and a sub-committee was formed for the purpose of carrying out that arrangement, and another sub-commit-tee was formed for the purpose of engaging a band. Five per cent will be deducted from the winners of the races, as is the custom at all such meetings. Mr Freeth's name was again added to I the Committee, with those of Messrs : Woolfe and Smyrk. We have received from Mr ; Freeth a copy of the Nelson Turf Club Rules for last year, and publish for the information of the Committee and Stewards of the forthcoming races, the weight s for age as recognised there.
