The latest news from Napier is that an escort proceeding with ammunition for the use of Westrupp's force has been attacked by a party of twenty Hau-haus. Eight kegs of ammunition were taken.

The rebels, who were short of ammunition, have thus got 5000 rounds. The Hau-haus, under Kooti and others, are believed to be 500 strong, and 2GO of them, mounted, are said to be riding about Poverty Bay. Westrupp's force, all told, numbers 2SO. The friendly Natives who went over to the enemy, have been shot by them, and others have since been killed. The Native teacher was separated from the rest, and kept under strict guard. H.M.S.S.
