ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE.
Last Monday at six minutes after midnight, a most distinct and severe shock of earthquake was felt in Westport, and very naturally created considerable alarm amongst the inhabitants of the town. It was not a slight tremor of a few seconds duration, but an upheaval that lasted for fully two minutes, and set everything moveable dancing in every house. The earth seemed literally to rise under the feet, and the sensation when walking the fioor of a-house was actually similar to that of walking the deck of a vessel, in a rather rough sea. In some houses glasses and articles of furniture were upset, and houses fixed on high piles tottered as though they would have been shaken off their supports. The wave seemed to come from east to west, and the shock was so sovere as to wake every one in the place. In the office of this paper every stamp danced in its case, and a large double demy press rocked ominously and gravely on its stand. At this hour we are unable to give any further particulars, but the severest shock of earth quake ever experience in this island was unquestionably felt last night. Since penning the above two other shocks have passed, but of a much slighter character; the first occurred about half an hour after the great shock, and the second at one o'clock this morning.
