HOSPITAL MEETING.
The Hospital Committee met on Wednesday evening at the Court house, there being present Mr Tyler, the chairman; Messrs M'Farland, Powell, Munro, O'Conor, Harris Eield, Smyth, and Dr Giles. Mr Munro drew the attention of the committee to the books of rules and subscribers names printed according to contract at the Westpobt Times printing office. He stated that the printers had charged for blank pages, pointing them out at the same time to the meeting. Mr Powell stated that it was the custom of the trade.
Mr Harris was of the same opinion. Mr Munro said the price charged for the books was very small, but to the uninitiated this plan of charging looked strange. Mr O'Conor remarked that if the committee were of the opinion the price was low and the account correct it should be passed without any haggling.
Mr Munro also thought the paper was too heavy; the other members of the committee however, did not coincide in that opinion, and the account was ordered to be paid. Mr Harris, Honorary Treasurer, laid before the meeting his balance sheet for the last quarter, and stated that the balance in the bank at this date was £6O 4s - 9d., and the amount due from the Government was £842 os., while the ordinary expenditure ammounted to £228 4s. 9d., in addition to which £3OO had been paid the contraetor; on account of new hospital building. Mr Harris also stated that the new hospital building would be ready for occupation in a few days, the painting of the outside being very neai'ly finished. The TreasurerVreport was adopted. The Committee next proceeded jto consider the notices of motion relative to the alteration of some of the rules.
At this point our reporter had to leave, owing to the arrival of the English telegrams, but we have since learnt that the most important alteration adopted was that of reducing the quorum required for making any change in the by-laws, from nine to seven. The Yisiting Committee received authority to frame rules for the internal discipline of the hospital.
