Our files of Otago papers, are to the 24th ult., from which we extract the following items.—The Rifle match, between the Dunedin Volunteer Artillery, and No. 1 Company of Rifles, was won by the former, who gained a majority of 16 points. Sergeant Hannah of the Artillery made the highest score, 43 on his side, and private Creagh of the Rifles, ccored 45. 500 Chinamen, have passed through Alexandra, on their way to the diggings, in the direction of St Bathans and Mount Ida. This migration is said to be the result of private information received from the Chinese population of Mount Ida.

The once far famed Gabriel's Gully, is now almost deserted. The Laurance correspondent of the Bruce Herald states that the Chinese are now taking advantage of the large acreage allowed by the new mining regulations, and in every direction where they have been located, claims of three, four, and five acres, are being taken up. is some talk of a woollen mill being established in Queenstown. The Clyde Town Council, have decided to apply to the Provincial Government, for professional assistance in making a survey for a water race, to carry one hundred heads of water, from the Flinders river to the Dunstan Plat.

The action of Orbell v Jones, for malicious prosecution, has resulted in a verdict of one farthing damages.
