In consequence of the number of hands thrown out of employment, by by reason of the stoppage of all Government work, large bodies of men were to be seen hanging about the streets during the greater part of yesterday; the number being considerably increased by many who came down from Addison's Flat, to attend the funeral of Heaphy, the man who died so unexpectedly in the hospital on Sunday.
It will be seen by an advertisement which appears in another column, calling for tenders for the construction of a bridge over the Motutnotu Creek, near Greymouth, that the Grey River Coal Company have thoroughly made up their minds to prosecute their works without any further delay. Apart from the very great importance which the coal railway, and the operations of the company generally, will ultimately give to Greymouth, tbe execution of the works, and consequent expenditure of money, cannot but have an immediate beneficial effect on the trade and prosperity of the town. We observe by the Dunediu papers, that our old friend the Keera, having
been duly cut in half, is now in a fair way of being again made a complete whole, with an addition to her original length of nearly thirty feet. The contractors for the work, are Messrs Kincaid, M'Queen and Co., and it is expected that she will be turned out of their yard in a finished state in a few weeks. The John Penn arrived late last night from G-reymouth. She is advertised to leave Westport to-day for the Manaka via Nuelson.
