The European news brought by the Panama mail, though interesting, is not important. In England things have been remarkably quiet, and if the telegrams are to be relied upon, little if any political excitement seems to be existing. This however we can hardly suppose, and must rather think that by some accident, particulars on this head have heen omitted in the news to hand. A serious accident at Manchester, and the abolition of the disgrace of public executions in G-reat Britain, is about all the English news Crossing the channel however we find that landlord shooting is in full activity varied in this instance by murder of police in addition. Eenianism if not extinct, is remarkably quiet, no mention is made of its very existence even. On the continent we find that ".Russia and Prussia have been embracing by proxy, in the place of their sovereigns who have met at Wiesbaden, and have held a most amicable conference. A most extraordinary piece of liberality has emanated from Russia, in abolising compulsory military service, and the Czar's example might be followed with advantage by other European powers. A batch of Cardinals have been recently appointed, including one Englishman and the eldest son of the church has been sending more soldiers into Italy, they having been withdrawn by way of showing his sincerity in the principle of non-intervention. Spain of course is in her usual state of chronic revolution, and Austria is dissatisfied at being excluded from the German Conference, and has expressed herself to that effect. From South America oue of the greatest calamities that has ever been recorded, has fallen on the inhabitants of the doomed cities, to which reference is made. At present it is impossible to estimate the extent of the calamity, as full particulars are not to hand, but it is certain that the destruction of life and property has been awful, and unprecedented in the history of the world.
